SMS Opt-In Policy

Last updated · July 22, 2026

Share-a-thon sends text messages only when people have already joined a campaign or organization and actively choose to use SMS. This policy explains how we get consent, what kinds of messages you may receive, and how to stop them.

1. What you are opting into

By providing your phone number and checking an SMS consent box on a Shareathon signup, waitlist, or account form, you consent to receive SMS messages from Shareathon (Hog Wild Fundraising LLC) at that number. We split SMS into two clearly labeled tracks so you always know what you're agreeing to:

a. Account & service messages (transactional)

These are tied to your account and campaigns. If you sign up by phone, or add a phone number to your profile and check the account-SMS box, you may receive:

  • One-time login and verification codes.
  • Waitlist and early-access status updates.
  • Campaign alerts (goal reached, payout scheduled, refund processed).
  • Donation receipts and thank-you confirmations.
  • Personal share invites sent by a participant to their own contacts, and organization invitations sent by an admin to a member or parent.
  • Two-way replies from Cottontail, our AI support assistant — automated help, answers about your campaign, and hand-off to a human when needed. Cottontail responds only to messages you initiate or to alerts about your account.

b. Promotional messages (marketing)

Only sent if you separately check the promotional SMS box. These include launch news, fundraising tips, feature announcements, and product updates — roughly 2–4 messages per month. Marketing SMS is never required to create an account, join the waitlist, or use Shareathon, and you can decline it while still receiving account messages.

We do not send promotional texts to people who have not specifically opted into the marketing track, and we do not purchase phone-number lists or send cold outreach.

2. How we obtain consent

Consent is obtained through a clear, unchecked-by-default user action inside the Shareathon platform. Every consent event is logged with a timestamp and the form it was captured on:

  • Phone signup / early access: You enter your mobile number and check the account-SMS box (and optionally the marketing-SMS box). The two are separate.
  • Share-by-text: A participant enters their friend or family member's phone number and taps a send button. The sender is responsible for only sharing with people they know and who would want to receive the message.
  • Member invitation: An organization admin invites a parent, student, staff member, or other supporter by entering a phone number the person has already provided to the organization. The invitee is not charged for the text and can opt out at any time.
  • Account notifications: If you add a phone number to your profile, you may receive service messages such as login codes or campaign alerts. These are transactional, not promotional.

3. Message types and frequency

Account and service messages are sent as needed — typically a few per active campaign, plus occasional login codes. Promotional messages, if you opt in, are limited to roughly 2–4 per month. Personal share invites and member invitations are sent one at a time by the person sharing — never bulk blasts.

We respect your time and limit automated messages to what is necessary to operate the platform safely.

4. How to opt out

You can stop receiving SMS messages from Share-a-thon at any time. Just reply STOP, STOPALL, UNSUBSCRIBE, CANCEL, END, or QUIT to any message. We will remove your number from our active SMS list and reply with a confirmation.

To start receiving messages again, reply START or YES to the same number, or update your preferences in your Share-a-thon profile.

For help, reply HELP or INFO. You can also contact us at help@shareathon.com or hello@shareathon.com.

5. Data use and privacy

We store phone numbers only to send the messages you requested and to honor opt-outs. We do not sell, rent, or share phone numbers with third parties for marketing purposes. SMS delivery is handled by Twilio, our messaging provider, subject to our Privacy Policy and Subprocessors page.

Standard carrier messaging and data rates may apply. Share-a-thon does not charge recipients for SMS messages.
